The SIOG Advanced Course aims to bridge the area of geriatrics with oncology players. The course Faculty is organised in such a manner so as to complement the works and findings of local/regional experts. As SIOG, the core faculty conducts these sessions, by injecting knowledge, skills and experience focusing on the geriatric oncology perspective, which could include (1) tumour perspective – but highlighting the relevance of age and differing biology when relevant; (2) geriatric aspects – e.g.
the impact of physiological reserve on treatment options/dosing etc. if for systemic therapy, the value of geriatric assessment (GA) in selecting treatment (systemic vs local (surgery/radiation) and in optimizing treatment once selected (with intervention following GA).
