The ASEAN Economic Reform (AER) Prosperity Fund Programme aims to improve the ASEAN business and financial services sector for businesses and drive economic growth. A component of AER is the Financial Sector and Intellectual Property Programme (FSIP). This is a 3-year programme running in Indonesia, Philippines, Vietnam and Myanmar from 2019 to address market challenges and weaknesses that impede SE Asia's inclusive economic growth. Its objective is to strengthen overall business environment as a key enabler for inclusive economic growth to provide significant positive impact on poverty and inequality across the region.
An important part of strengthening the overall business environment is improving the intellectual property (IP) environment for local and foreign businesses operating in the 4 countries. FSIP has a number of projects to support IP covering IP protection, IP policy and IP enforcement. Several of these projects seek to achieve these objectives through provision of materials and resources to help businesses understand and deal with IP issues. Especially in the complex area of IP enforcement.
As part of the FSIP's cooperation with the ASEAN secretariat, a Manual on IP protection and enforcement for all 10 ASEAN countries has been created and will be published by ASEAN in due course. A less technical version for Indonesia with more explanation and context has been created and published by the FSIP programme in partnership with BritCham and Rouse. This will enable businesses to understand how IP enforcement works, not only in theory but with some practical tips and guidelines. It is a resource for companies trading in Indonesia, both local and foreign as well as those proposing to bring technology, brands and creative assets to Indonesia as part of future investment.
